When we decide to create our own game, the first thing we do is think about the idea, imagine the popularity of our product, and how we will spend the first profit. Few people immediately think about the fact that you can not run the project alone.
Meanwhile, to create a successful project we need a whole team – the staff of our own little video game company:
- Sound engineer;
- Level designer;
Primary Responsibilities: These people handle the creative elements of a game. This may include the creation of storylines, characters, rules, goals, and objectives, and may also be a collaborative process where the person in this role also has another role, such as a programmer. The game design includes developing the gameplay and presenting the concept to publishers and management. The initial design may include different designers as well as writers who develop the narrative, dialogues, and text of the product.
Primary Responsibilities: a team of artists may be needed to completely flesh out the look of the project, applying expertise that ranges from creating color palettes and game environments to special effects such as flash, smoke, storms, water, or fire.
Major Responsibilities: sound designers oversee all aspects of sound during development. Sound can affect the player’s emotions, create tension, and increase excitement about the product. A sound engineer’s duties may include creating the background atmosphere, mixing musical soundtracks, and editing sound to match movement, such as synchronizing the recorded voice with the mouth and movements of the character.
Primary functions: programmers write the code that allows the product to be played on various consoles and personal computers. Their responsibilities include developing software, incorporating illustrations into the game, and setting up how users will access and interact with the project.
Key Responsibilities: level designers focus on creating challenging and engaging levels in the game, keeping players engaged at each stage. They decide how challenging each level will be, ensuring that gameplay variations are easy to follow, and sticking to the directions of the original game design.
Key Responsibilities: testers perform quality assurance tests on a game by playing it several times to make sure it is user-friendly and runs smoothly. They report any bugs to the team and offer feedback to game developers to make the instructions clearer and the overall experience more enjoyable.
Key Responsibilities: producers maintain the production schedule and manage the team of developers. They oversee such things as budgets, contracts, marketing, and meeting production deadlines.
