Where Can You Junk Cars?

Automobiles are undoubtedly one of the greatest technological feats of man. The ability to sit behind the wheel, start your engine, and drive wherever you need to go is something that humans could not have envisioned for many thousands of years. Now, of course, we couldn’t envision a life where we don’t have cars to ferry us around. Though cars aren’t indestructible at all and millions of them will be labelled as junk every year.

When this happens, how do you handle the junk car removal? You can’t just allow the car to sit out in your driveway indefinitely. Here are a few good ways that you can get rid of that junk car and perhaps even make some money in the process.

Places to Get Rid of Junk Cars

1: The Junkyard

When most people think of junk, the junkyard is the first place they really think of. Some junkyards out there might give you a few bucks for your car, though mostly they’re just like graveyards for automobiles that no longer function. They make their money by selling off the good parts, which we’ll discuss in more detail below, and also by having people stop by who might be looking for parts. Eventually, they’ll just crush the car and dispose of it.

2: Pick-n-Pull Services

Dealing with a pick-‘n-pull company is really the best of both worlds. They will handle the junk car removal for you, which means that you will not have to pay to have it towed away. Plus, they are going to give you fair market value for the parts in there that they can use. Rims and tires, AC systems, axles, catalytic converters, etc.: there might be all sorts of parts on your car that are still technically good, even though the sum total of the automobile is junk.

3: Donation

You can always donate your car. Believe it or not, there are a lot of charities out there that will accept your car. Why are they willing to accept junk? Well, they’re going to do what you just read above here; they’re going to take that car to some pick-‘n-pull location and get a few hundred dollars or more for the good parts in the car, and they are going to use that money to purchase clothing, food, etc., for needy individuals and families. It’s a very nice thing that you can do with your junker if you don’t need the money yourself. Charities will make good use out of your junk automobile.

4: Dealer Trade-In

In certain situations, you can actually take the junked car to a dealership to get some trade-in value. This is good for a car that the insurance has labelled “totaled.” If you’ve owned a car for decades now and it’s a rust bucket, the odds of getting any trade-in value at all are slim to none. However, if you do happen to fall into this slim category, the dealership will likely offer you some value toward purchasing a new car from their lot. No cash in hand, of course, but trade value might be useful for you.

5: List an Ad

Places like Craigslist are still out there and very active, along with all sorts of similar sites where you can freely place an ad. If you have a junk car that you just want removed from your property, you will likely find dozens of people willing to show up to take it off your hands. Why would so many answer such an ad? It’s because they know for sure that they can likely get a few hundred dollars from a pick-‘n-pull service!

Given the facts that you have read here, selling your junk car for some cold, hard cash seems like the smartest way to go about getting rid of your junk car. Sure, you might be able to get a little trade-in value from a dealership, but not much at all. Knowing that there’s a method out there that can get you some cash in hand is great. If you would rather donate, that’s fine too. Just know that you do have a few options available to you for getting rid of your junker.
