Had An Accident? Here’s What You Should Do

Here’s a short guide on what to do if you find yourself in a car accident. The last thing that you want to do is to just walk away!

1. Stay Calm and Call For Help

Move your car to a safe area if possible. Proceed to get out of the vehicle (assuming that you’re not seriously injured).

Check to see if anyone is injured and call 911. Wait until the police arrive on the scene and give them information about the accident. Avoid admitting fault or blaming the other party.

2. Gather Information

Start gathering information once you know that everyone’s okay. More specifically, you want to write down the driver’s name, address, and license plate number. It’s also a good idea to ask for their contact information.

Next, you’ll want to get their insurance details—that is, you want to write down the company name and policy number.

Ideally, you also want to write out your account of what happened for your own records. Don’t forget to include the date and time of the accident!

3. Take Photos

Take photos of the scene surrounding the crash. If anything, it’s one of the best ways to preserve evidence.

More specifically, you want to get pictures of your vehicle, the damage it’s sustained, and the other cars involved. In addition to that, you want to capture the accident site, weather conditions, and any bodily injuries that you incurred from the accident.

They’ll come in handy when you’re dealing with insurance adjusters, who’ll want to investigate your claim.

4. Contact Your Insurance Company

The next thing that you want to do is call your insurance company—they’ll walk you through how to file a claim.

From there, you’ll be contacted by a claims adjuster, who will tell you how much of the claim will be covered. You can then take your vehicle to a car shop such as CSI Collision Specialist for repairs.

5.  Contact a Good Mechanic

When its time to get your car fixed its important to find a good auto repair mechanic and body shop.  Getting the right expertise and experience will be important to ensuring your car is in back to the best it can be.
