High-Force Linear Actuators Application in Muscle Cars

We already know that linear actuators are successfully applied in practically all industries. But what about non-industrial applications? There are some very interesting of them, too. What about muscle car simulators?

This is one of the most unusual applications. It is so unusual that not everybody knows about it. Electric actuators in muscle cars create that realistic experience that makes such simulators valuable for car testing.

Why such simulators are used at all? Before buying a car, a driver would like to test it. Muscle cars are not among the cheapest ones. Thus, most companies are not willing to provide a driving test to every prospective client. It would have a negative impact on a vehicle, and it is connected with losses for the company. Thus, a potential driver can use a simulator built with a PA-13 high force electric actuator. Other actuator models can be used, too, if they comply with the specific requirements.

Using a Simulator That Provides the Most Realistic Experience

A reliable car manufacturer cannot use just any simulator. You might be surprised but for every car model, a different simulator shall be developed. When a driver uses a simulator, everything shall be like while driving a real car. And every car has its specific features and behaves differently when riding.

For example, a good muscle car can accelerate to 60 miles per hour during just a couple of seconds. When launched, the car raises its front end. Then, it drops gradually while riding. When the driver pushes the brake, the car nose dives, and the rear end is lifted.

All these movements shall be reproduced as accurately as possible, for every car model. And this is something that a muscle car simulator with electric actuators can provide. To ensure the top accuracy, a simulator shall be designed and built with the application of specific elements.

Which Actuators Can Be Used?

For a simulator, powerful and extremely accurate actuators shall be used. They are installed in the suspension. Four actuators are needed: two are installed in the front part, and two more – in the back part. They will reproduce the car movements accurately.

Thus, the suspension is replaced by powerful actuators. They shall be powerful enough to lift the weight of a simulated car and flexible enough to ensure proper movement. Electric actuators shall be also not big, they shall fit in the space of the suspension. It shall be done without altering the exterior of the simulated car. Electric actuators also allow for the control easiness. This is one of the crucial features of such an application. PA-13 are perfect for this reason also because they offer high force values and do not require maintenance. They are also highly reliable.

Can other actuators be used? Of course, they can be applied quite successfully as long as they comply with the needed requirements. They shall be reliable, relatively small, powerful enough, and easy-to-control. These are the features that are provided by high-force electric actuators.
